The Beginning of Our Journey

J and I started TTC in December 2005 with high hopes of becoming parents rather quickly. Boy were we wrong! By April 2006 I had only had 1 cycle on my own so I went back in to see my ob/gyn, Dr. K, who after running a few tests, diagnosed me with PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). PCOS is a hormonal imbalance that affects ovulation. Rather than releasing an egg every month, my immature folicles were turning into cysts on my ovaries which in turn were producing too much testosterone. And because I produce too much testosterone and not enough progesterone, I wasn't have normal cycles.

The remedy for the annovulatory cycles was to put me on 50 mg of Clomid. So in May I took the Clomid on cycle days 5-9, and to my surprise a few days later I ovulated! We didn't catch the eggie that month so we tried again in June. Low and behold, in August I turned up pregnant!!!! We were so incrediby excited! But soon that excitement turned into fear when I started spotting a few days later. I had what is called a chemical pregnancy. We were crushed, but determined to give it another try.

We tried again in September with no luck and again in October, but still had no luck. So Dr. K bumped me up to 100 mg. Over the Thanksgiving holidays I ovulated. Yep, we were trying to catch that eggie while out of town visiting my folks!

In early December I had a positive pregnancy test, and while we were excited, we were worried at the same time. I guess you could say we were cautiously excited. My first HcG at 16 days post ovulation (DPO) came back at 127. A little on the low side, but only time would tell whether this pregnancy was a keeper. Two days later I went back for another HcG test, and the numbers doubled just like they were supposed to! Praise God!!! At 24DPO I went back in for another HcG, and this time it was 1522. We could breath a sigh of relief! Everything looked good!
